Behind The Cover: 33.1

Chris Rasman.
A staple name.
An absolute Power House.

No stranger to going deep in the backcountry, which is prime example why we had to put Rasman on the cover for Issue 33.1. We delved into the day with Chris and Photographer Duncan Sadava which lead to the shot.

Behind the Cover – Duncan Sadava

After 5 straight days of filming in marginal snow conditions, ‘vibes were high, but energy was low’ according to Chris. But the light was nice so he went up to check the snow on this face, discovered that it was not very good, and then went back up and sent this huge frontside 7 melon off a natty downhill takeoff anyway. As Rusty (Ockenden) packed up his camera he said (paraphrased) ‘sometimes you just gotta stick around a little longer to see if Chris decides to chuck himself 70 feet into 6 inches of snow at sunset.’

I knew Chris probably wasn’t gonna hit this thing twice and if it worked out it was gonna be sick. I scoped a few angles and ended up in this spot because I liked the light and the background, but I wasn’t quite sure what Chris’ trajectory would look like. Afterward I decided the single frame didn’t do justice to the trick or the feature so I decided to make it a sequence, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
